PICKNEY LOVE AT CHRISTMAS 10TH ANNIVERSARY
Sweet Jamaican music pulsated the walls of the Jamaica Pegasus on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the 10th successful staging of Capital & Credit’s Annual Signature Corporate Event, Pickney Love at Christmas!
In celebration of the 10th staging, artistes who have performed at the event over the years were once again invited to partner with Capital & Credit to support the worthy cause, along with a few first-timers.
From the Pickney Love feather banners that lined the outside corridors of the Hotel, to the glitzy backdrop of the stage and Christmas Carols playing in the background; the stage was set for what would turn out to be one of the best Pickney Love Concerts ever to be staged!
Over twelve hundred patrons came to the event to see acts such as Marcia Griffiths, Wayne Marshall, Sandra Brooks, Tanya Stephens, Lovindeer, George Nooks, Chino and Freddie McGregor among others all backed by FAB 5.
In true Capital & Credit style the audience received a warm welcome from the Capital & Credit Chorale led by Head of Marketing, Michelle Wilson-Reynolds, which opened the show with the theme song: Welcome to Pickney Love, followed by Kirk Franklyn’s –Lean on Me and Gloria Estefan’s- Reach, for which they received raging applause and a standing ovation. The stage was set for an entertaining evening. The Wolmers’ Dance Troupe and a number of gospel acts, including Sandra Brooks, The Grace Thrillers, 2011 JCDC Junior Gospel Song winner, Joshua Lewis and the Kencot Church Choir, also performed during the first half of the show.
During the second half, patrons were “swaging” to Wayne Marshall’s hit song “I am Swaging” and sang their hearts out as Gem Myers performed “One Man Girl”. Members of the audience begged for encore performances from Chino and Tanya Stephens.
The Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths and the lead man behind the “Big Ship Family” Freddie McGregor gave a soul soothing performance of “United We Stand “which brought the curtains down at Capital & Credit’s Pickney Love at Christmas!
Capital & Credit’s ongoing commitment to the Mustard Seed Communities generally, and its Dare to Care Home in particular, continues to grow stronger each year. Since 2002, the concert has raised well -needed funds and donated all proceeds after audit, provided free of cost by Deloitte & Touche to the deserving charity. The first concert in 2001 raised funds to build classrooms for the School of Hope for Disabled Children, while the last nine shows have been for the benefit of the Mustard Seed’s Dare to Care Homes for children abandoned and living with HIV/AIDS. To date, the concerts have netted over $10.32 million for Dare to Care which has helped to convert the former hospice into homes for over 74 children orphaned or abandoned with the disease. The 2010 concert raised over $1.6 million and it is hoped that the 2011 concert will beat that total as together with its loyal patrons, Capital & Credit DARES TO CARE
