Four Institutions Benefit from CCFG Donated Computers during Education Week

In recognition of Education Week observed May 3- 7, 2010, four completely refurbished computers, including CPUs, monitors and keyboards, were donated by the Capital & Credit Financial Group (CCFG).

The True Missionary Church of God Ministries, St. Peter Claver Primary School; Mustard Seed - Dare to Care Home and Wolmer’s High School for Girls were each recipients of a computer to assist with either their administrative functions or to tutor students.

General Manager, Capital & Credit Merchant Bank (CCMB), Moya Leiba-Barnes who made the first presentation to Minister Wilson of True Missionary Church of God Ministries in the boardroom of CCFG, expressed hope that computer would have a positive impact on its beneficiaries. According to Mrs. Leiba-Barnes “helping people with limited resources to better themselves is a very important aspect of Capital & Credit’s Corporate Social Responsibility.”  She also added that the Capital & Credit Financial Group has demonstrated strong support for educational programmes and initiatives over the years and so she was personally happy that the donation would aid the Literacy, Academic and Social Development Programme that was recently spearheaded by the Church.

Long-standing relationships

The presentations made to St. Peter Claver Primary School, Mustard Seed - Dare to Care Home and Wolmer’s Preparatory respectively, form part of Capital & Credit’s long-standing relationships with these institutions.

Of note however, is the Organisation’s ongoing commitment to improving literacy through its ‘Reading Day’ activities.  Since ‘Read Across Jamaica Day’ on May 5, 2009, various team members of Capital & Credit have played a very active role in the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica/Ministry of Education’s (PSOJ/MOE) ‘READING…THE BOTTOM LINE’ programme. CFFG team members have been tremendously supportive of the Cause, ever since the Organisation adopted St. Peter Claver Primary School one year ago.  On a monthly basis, a variety of books are read to the students ranging from Grades 1-6.

Vice President, Information Technology, Ernest Edwards, along with members of the CCFG Marketing Team made the presentation to the School’s principal, Mrs. Karen Jackson-Reynolds and the School’s Guidance Councillors, who later expressed their gratitude to the members of Capital & Credit for the donation.  The well-needed computer will be placed in the Guidance Council Unit to assist with the data entry process.

The other two computers were presented to Ms. Donna Reynolds of Mustard Seed – Dare to Care Home and Mrs. Lorna Downie, Principal of Wolmer’s Preparatory School on Teacher’s Day.
